Fuzzi Bunz Cloth Diaper FAQ

Why are Fuzzi Bunz better than other diapers?

Fuzzi Bunz help to keep baby dry and more comfortable. Because baby is drier he is less likely to get diaper rash. Due to the multiple snap placement Fuzzi Bunz are adjustable so you spend less money buying many sizes. Because the adjustable size allows for a better fit there are no messy or wet leaks. Fuzzi Bunz also have leg casings which were designed especially to contain breastmilk poop. Fuzzi Bunz are made of all new materials and are durable to last through multiple children. They are easy to use (just stuff them with an insert sold here) and easy to care for. They stay beautiful wash after wash. They do not stain or pill. Because they are a 2-part system they dry quicker than many other types of diapers. They also offer a very trim fit. No more bulky, saggy cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are also better for the enviroment.

How do I wash my Fuzzi Bunz?

Fuzzi Bunz are a single use diaper; you use it once and then wash it. When the diaper is wet, separate the two pieces and put it into your diaper pail. If the diaper is soiled, simply shake the solid poop off into the toilet. There is no need to rinse the diaper, the remaining poop will safely dissolve in the washer.
When you are ready to wash (every day-every other day) run a cold rinse or soak cycle with no detergent to dissolve the poop and get out the urine.
After the rinse cycle run a HOT wash with 1/2 of the amount of detergent recommended for a regular load of laundry. Because your wash cycle most likely has a cold rinse, there is no need to run a second rinse unless you feel you had a particularily dirty load. You can either hang to dry (recommended) or tumble dry your diapers on low heat.

What types of detergent should I use to wash my Fuzzi Bunz?

Do not use fabric softeners or pure soap products to wash your Fuzzi Bunz. Mother of Eden (the manufacturer of Fuzzi Bunz) reccomends using Allen's Naturally Laundry Detergent (sold here). Other detergents such as 7th Generation, Ecover, Life-Kind, Cheer Free and Oxiclean can be used. Stay away from perfumed detergents. They are not good for the baby and can actually do more harm than good.

Can I bleach my Fuzzi Bunz?

Exposing your Fuzzi Bunz to bleach is not recommended as it may shorten the life of your diaper. Oxiclean or other non-chlorine bleach may be used to remove stains but sunning is recommended.

Why do my diapers smell bad?

Here are some of the many reasons that your diapers may smell bad:
1. Waiting too long to wash diapers: Soiled diapers should not be stored dry for more than 25 hours. If you are storing your diapers in a wet pail, you can wait 2-3 days before washing but you should change the water daily.
2. Soaking in Dirty Water: Diapers should be rinsed or knocked off before soaking.
3. Unrolled Dirty Diapers: Loosen the diapers before putting them in the diaper pail.
4. Washer Overload: In order to get diapers clean make sure your washer is not too full. No more than 24 diapers should be washed at once.
5. Vinegar Rinse: Adding vinegar to the rinse cycle may cause your diapers to stink because both vinegar and urine are acidic. Try eliminating vinegar from your rinse and see if the odor is eliminated.
6. Too Much Detergent: If detergent is not thoroughly rinsed out, your diapers will smell bad when your baby wets. Your diapers should have no odor or smell faintly clean once dry. If you diapers smell of perfume you are probably using too much detergent. Mother of Eden (manufacturer of Fuzzi Bunz) recommends washing your diapers using only 1/4-1/2 of the recommended detergent. Rinsing your diapers until you no longer see suds will usually cure this problem.
7. Diaper Ointments: Some diaper creams contain cod liver oil and may cause diapers to smell fishy. To remove, soak in a strong detergent and scrub with a toothbrush.
8. Fabric Softeners: Fabric softeners will leave a residue on your diapers that is very difficult to remove and will interfere with proper functioning of your diapers.
9. Mild detergents: Diapers need to be washed in detergents strong enough to remove the urine and poop. Mild detergents are not recommended for diapers.

How many do I need to diaper my baby full time?

You will need approximately 12 of each size diaper. Mother of Eden recommends 12 Fuzzi Bunz with inserts and 2 doublers for full time use.
